'96 850 GLT Radiator Replacement - Difficulty/Tips? 850 1996

The plastic expansion tanks on my '96 850 GLT (~200k miles)have developed too many leaks to use JB Weld or any other stop gap solution. It's a great commuter car and I'd like to replace the radiator myself.

Anyone have any advise? On line places to find "how to" instructions etc?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Its not that bad to do.. keep in mind your going to have to remove a few screws on the header panel after you remove the fan assembly.

The worst part of this is the two bolts which hold the radiator to the frame. The nut fasteners are welded to the frame and come loose..causing the bolt to spin and making it difficult to remove. I would suggest you spray it with penetrating oil before you start.

The only other thing i would suggest is you remove the antifreeze by removing the bottom hose and not the petcock/drain cock on the bottom of the radiator.

Depending on the model you purchase they sometimes are defective.

Happy Repairs Forever!

It's not hard at all. But if it is the expansion tank, just get a new one of those, and a new cap.
At 200K, you should be getting new radiator hoses (OEM) as well. Just shop around in the net. Use google.

If you have a small gas soldering bolt which has a blow torch/flame adapter, put heat on the radiator lug nuts. They will come off much easier. Also, if you have a air con, hold the condensor unit up by placing a plank across the spoiler port to the the engine.
