Steering Wheel fix S70 1997

Fellow Bricksters,

My family has just purchased a 1997 S70 T5 (third Volvo in Family I must be influencing them), a stunningly quick and comfortable vehicle. The only blemish seems to be the steering wheel, it is the wheel with the wood/leather trim. And at the back of the wheel the leather is coming away from the wood trim up on the top part of the wheel. It is at present only slightly, however we want to stop it before it goes any further.

Does anyone know of a fix to this!!!! If so I would be very interested, as I was going to attack this with glue but than I thought I would post this just in case someone has another fix..

Thanks in Advance.

Steering Wheel fix S70 1997

I just changed out my steering wheel on my '97 850 with a better one from eBay for $25. It wasn't hard to do, or a shop probably would not charge much to make the switch if you don't want to.
Good Luck

Previous owner had a bad habit of steering from the top of the wheel? With a death grip? :)

Glue is your only option. But find a really good glue, because it will have to withstand 180F from being parked in the sun. After the glue dries, soak the leather with Lexol to prevent further shrinking.

A 1997 S70? They didn't bring those to the USA until 1998.

Klaus,

Thanks for advice I will try this weekend. I should be more specific I live in Australia and we classified that as a 97 model because that is when it was imported. I believe in America they would classify that as a 98 model. I think?????

Thanks for your advice anyway......
