Good v70/s70 V70-XC70

Is there a cut off model year when one should no longer consider buying the v70 or s 70? I understand that since Ford bought Volvo, they aren't worth a darn anymore..Is that true? If so, what is the cut off?

The shade-tree mechanics would say the 850 and 70 up to 1998, because they have a throttle cable and the later cars are drive-by-wire. The post-'98 cars also have variable valve timing.

But really, the V70 to 2007 and the S60 are Volvo designs, not Fords.

The current S40-V50-C70 is built on a Ford/Mazda platform as is the new S80.

I would buy a 2001 or newer. I have seen no change since Ford.
