New news, So I checked all the things that were suggested nothing is working, However I did start it up today. It idled for about 2 minutes then I decided to rev it a lil (3000) max It then began to miss and shake and it finally shat again. WTF??? I'm really confused now. Can a fuel pump fail intermitenly (sp) or does it just completely fail altogether....Thanks in advance

Dazed and Confused =\

okay so I got the cap rotor and wires started to install the new rotor...You said something about a new seal...no one has heard about this seal. The one I think you are telling me about is cone shaped and has a rubber O ring at the base of it....it crumbled in my hand when I took it off....

    Thank you for your help

Found the seal, it is listed as a dust cover. It is a special order part. Won't be in until the 11th. I put everything back together and it runs like a charm...sort of. I have no turbo pressure, at least it feels like it. Vacuum leak? Klaus, you really should have seen the inside of the cap =0 holy crap!

I have another question but I'm going to do a new blog on it.

Thank you for your help Ten thumbs up to you sir

Had a similar problem about a year ago, in my case it was the fuel pump relay. The relay is located inside the box where the fuses are contained (just below the windshield under the hood on the drivers side)You have to remove the screws in the cover of the box to get at the relays). I believe the relay is red in colour. When it began to sputter I tapped on the relay and sometimes it would come back to life and continue running. The eventually nothing worked. What I did was remove the relay and put a fine cotter pin across the two large pins in the relay connector. I did this when I wanted to drive the car then removed the jumper when it was parked, I had to do this as this was my only car and it took a couple of days to have the relay shipped to me. I would strongly advise against permanently by-passing the relay, they are there for a reason!!! One way to see if it is fuel pressure is to put a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve (looks like a tire fill valve) at the end of the fuel rail, right near the throttle linkage (removing the plastic cover makes life easier --1 screw). If the fuel pressure drops as the problem occurs it is likely your problem. The back yard version is to depress the valve stem momentarily when it stalls and see if there is any pressure there, becareful if there is pressure you will get a healthy squirt of fuel out of the valve. if the pump or relay are faulty there will be noticeably less pressure when the car has stalled as compared to how much pressure there is when it is running OK. Mine would stall when you tried to revv the engine as well. My car has 340000km on the clock and still has it's original pump. Good luck

It sounds like you are running out of gas. Any check engine lights? When was the last time you put a fuel filter on it?
Yes, the fuel pump may work until it gets hot and then quit. Did you check the fuel pressure after the engine died by pushing on the shcrader valve?
How about the fuel pump relay, was it hot? Someone on this board hot wired his fuel pump to bypass the relay, so the fuel pump ran whenever the ignition was on. I can't tell you how to do that, so don't ask.

I went to advanced auto parts and had the codes checked...fortunately I live right behind one so I was able to limp it over there hehe... The check engine light was already on for the "secondary air pump". I was told by volvo specialist that this really isn't a mojor concern. "all it does is pump ambient air into the exhaust to make it less condense" Back to the point. I didn't know anything else had triggered the CEL.

      Here's the list

      DTC (CODES)

PO442 EVAP EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK (SMALL)

PO410 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM MALFUNTION

PO455 EVAP EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM LEAD (LARGE)

      PO300 RANDOM/MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE DETECTED

      DTC PENDING (CODES)

      P0304 CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE DETECTED

      PO305 CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE DETECTED

      PO303 CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE DETECTED

      PO301 CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE DETECTED

Now what? Bad gas? Should I try the bg44?

      Thanks guys

All true about the air pump. Sounds like your oneway valve in the vacuum line is trashed. Also could be a leaking vacuum line.

As for the misfires... you are running on 1 cylinder! Are your plugs, wires, rotor and cap new? Or less than 10K miles old? Pull the plugs and check the ends. Are they wet or black? Then they are not working. Plug wires are reasonably cheap, as is the rotor, cap, and seal for the cap. Good OEM plugs are "expensive", but they last 25K miles. Those from autozone are cheap and built to stay that way.

I'm probably going to be shot for saying this but the car had 109k on it when I purchased it at the end of '04. Not sure when the plugs were last changed... car has 144k on it now *gunfire*

where might I find this "one way valve"?

          I'll get the tools out.

          Thanks Zach

If you were closer to me, I would lash you with wet noodles :) 40K miles on the same plugs? You need a tune up every 25K! Just make sure you get OEM parts, and a new seal for the cap.
As for the one way valve on the vacuum line, you should be able to see it. It is in the thin vacuum line that goes from the driver's side of the radiator to the manifold. Or is that on my V70? Anyway, in that area. Check the other vacuum lines that to to the relay and the air pump, which is below the battery tray. If the splash guard is off, you will be able to see the air pump in front of the left front wheel.
