850 wagon with 3rd row of seats rear shock mount 850 1994

I have a 1994 850 wagon that is making clunking noises formt he rear left. I have searched the forum and it looks like it is the rear shock top rubber mount. I found how to access this to check it out. But none of the posts mentioned the third row of seats.

Is it necessary toi remove the seats to access the rear shock top rubber mount? Is it hard to do this job?

Thanks
Andrew Davidson (Brisbane, Australia)

Might want to check the trailing arm too. facing the tire try to move it from left to right ,if you have play ,it could be the arm.

I don't know if the seats have to gone out, but they only take a few seconds to remove and put back in.

you probably have nivomats, expensive but well worth if if you have to replace shocks too

I do not think that you have to remove the third row seat, when I had fuel pump trouble with my 745, I was able to remove the panel behind the rear seat withoud removing anything else.

Many people do both sides once they get access.

I did this job on my 1997 with third-row seat, about 2 years ago. I am pretty sure I had to unbolt the seat back, but that was really straight forward, 2 bolts on each side if I remember correctly.

As for the upper shock mounts, it's basically an easy job, but I did run into one snag. There are two bolts (12 mm wrench I think) that hold the mount. The bolts go into nuts that are welded to the underside of the sheet metal. My bolts were so rusted that I broke the welds that held the nuts. I ended up cutting the bolts with a Dremel tool, and replacing with high-grade nuts/bolts from the hardware store, using star washers to keep the nuts from spinning. So: spray the bolts/nuts with PBlaster or such, well before you start the job. Having said that, some others have not had any problem getting the bolts off, but my car has spent many winters in the northeastern US with snow and salt.

You also need to jack the car up just enough to take the weight off the shock.
