Engine stabilizer mount S60 2001

A couple of months ago, I started noticing an unusual resonance in the car (manual transmission) right around 2000 rpm, regardless of what gear it was in. It has worsened a bit, and even my wife noticed it. I checked the top mount today, and sure enough, it's breaking down.

My questions:

1. Would the polyurethane mount from IPD allow a similar resonance, or would it simply cause a bit more vibration at idle?

2. The car has about 66,000 miles on it. Is it likely that the lower front mount is going too? If so, is the OEM mount the best option?

Thanks for your input.

Some of the board members say the polly bushing transfers too much vibration. I don't even notice it on mine. It is easy to install yourself and will never break again.
My lower mount was replaced at 130K miles, broken in half. Easy to do and OEM.

Thanks, Klaus. I've ordered the poly mount from IPD. I'll found out how it performs in a week or two.

IPD polyurethane bushing received and installed. Easy job; I removed the whole bracket (five bolts), cut the old bushing with a coping saw and pried it out with an old screwdriver. Went back together in less than 5 minutes.

There is more vibration at idle, but it's not bad. The 2000 rpm resonance is gone now in the sense that it's not apparent while acclerating through that rpm range, but it does show up to a lesser extent at a steady speed in 4th. The engine sounds a bit louder, but it's not objectionable.

The best part: throttle response, clutch engagement, and shifting are noticeably improved. Having the engine rocking around plays havoc with smooth driving. I also think that the ride over bumps is improved; I have the sense that the engine is effectively a structural member that reinforces the front end of the car, and if it's rocking excessively, everything suffers.

I pulled the right front wheel and did some prying around the lower front mount. It appears intact.

I'll see how my wife reacts when she drives the car.
