My local parts shop has what they call cheap rotors at $27 each and expensive at $60 each. The last set I got were mail order Zimmermans which worked fine, but I don't want to wait. The parts shop said the difference is the metal in the rotor. I have never heard of this. I am tempted to get the $27 rotor.

I have Zimmerman rotors with PBR Ceramic pads on my 855. Only cost about $200 installed. Stops great but more dust than I expected, but not as bad as OEM.

96 855 GLT, 108K, 5 speed, Bilstein touring shocks, new cat & o2 sensors, new cat back magnaflow muffler (a little too loud for a wagon)
2004 XC90, 36K (wife's car)
99 Saab 9-3 SE, 54K, Koni shocks, eiback springs (-1.2in), SAS rear sway bar, steering rack brace, 3" air intake mod.

One word ...... don't! $27 brake rotors are going to wear out awfully fast. You'll go through 2 or 3 sets of these in the same time you'll go through one set of the more expensive ones. If you're planning on unloading the car soon you may want to do it if you're so inclined but you'll be spending more money on labor using cheap parts.

Gotta be honest. That's a safety issue. I would not compromise on those. Besides it's gonna snow like hell tomorrow. You'll be able to wait for good ones. (Littleton)

I guess the question is.. what happened to your other rotors that you have to replace them? How long did they last? You get what you pay for sometimes!

I bought a set of Zimmermans that cost me $55 each which are now warped. Money is not always a determining factor.

I put on Zimmermans three years ago with no problems. Most warp issues come from uneven lug nut tightening--always use a torque wrench (81 ft lbs). I've also had great luck with PBR Metal Master pads. No dust, no squeal, excellent wear and great stopping power.
