850R Washer Pump 850

My 850R Wagon stopped delivering washer fluid to winshields (front and rear).

I looked at top of tank and there appears to be only one pump. Am I missing something?

I disconnected the leads and when I push the button, voltage is getting to the pump. I assume then "bad pump"

If it is the only pump, do I remove by pulling straight up and out or is there a trick for removal.

    Dave:

Are you shure the pump has failed? A really common problem is the "red hat" valve that stops the fluid from running back into the resevoir after operation. It's a few bucks at the dealer. When it clogs, the line to the pump will pop off sometimes and cause your problem. Follow the line from the pump up towards the hood. It's under the hood lining.

Replaced Washer pump visble from top of resevoir. The front washers no work. No action from rear washer fluid nozzle. Does the same pump supply both front and rear?

can you hear the pump whining when you activate it?

If so loosen the hoses and see if any liquid is shooting out. Sometimes the lines to the frong hood get kinked up under the hood hinge or you might have a blockage somewhere in the system.

I dont have a wagon so i could not answer that question.

I believe all of the wagons have two separate pumps, acessed from underneath, in front of the right wheel, with the splash guard off. Did both front and rear quit exactly at the same time? I am not aware of any common elements between the two systems. The front windshield washer flow usually gets blocked first at the top-hat T junction under the hood and back by the hood spray nozzles. There is also a small clear plastic canister (filter) in the line near the pump that clogs. Usually you can trace the flow of water by first disconnecting hose at the pump itself and insuring that water is pumped out from pump itself - if not, and you have current at pump, then problem in pump. If pump can push the water, then disconnect at each junction up to window washer nozzles and there must be a block at one of those. windshield and headlight washers work together, from same pump, and those usually plus at the junctin T connector hidden behind teh right headlight assembly. The rear has a separate lump located in front with teh other, on side of resevoir. The rear usually plugs at a clear plastic filter that is located under right rear floor panel, and next bet is the one-way valve that is in the line up behind the right rear D-pillar where teh speaker opening is, and near the upper taillight assembly. Remember that in all the checks for plugging, the pump itself must be able to pump water, so that is first check for both front and back.
