General Questions V70-XC70

Good Morning Folk ! ! !

I have just got a V70 GLT / 1998 volvo . While cleanig polishing the engine area
I noticed the Turbo appears to be water cooled... I had thought it was
oil cooled...Am I right.?

I also cleaned the throttle body.. as a lot of material I read said that this was a good idea... I expected to see a lot of carbon built-up...there was very
little and did not seem it was hurting any... What improvment should I
now expect to see...if any, Car was runnig okay.. (98,000 miles)

I also noticed two pipes (from the transmission..I think) just above the front
axel cv boot..a coupl of metal pipes going to a joint and than to one rubber unit joint.. these were too close for comfort to the cv boot so I tied them up
after I loosened the round v groved clamp... the routing seemed incorrect...
any idea where or what its for... SoSorry for the long winded explaination ../
I have had several 240's and 740 turbo etc. This is my first automatic...ughhh.

(Presently I am handicapped as am just recovering from a rotator cuff operation.
so could not go crawling under the car)
Many Thanks
Greg

Those lines above the CV boot should be connected to the suspension and move up and down with the axel.
If I were you, I would check out the cabin filter. It is probably very dirty. If not, then you got a car that was well maintained. Also check the color of the tranny fluid.

General Questions - my throttle body also was clean V70-XC70 1999

Last weekend, I cleaned my throttle body. It, too, was reasonably clean. Only the slightest grime came off on the paper towels. 60,000 miles, mixed city and highway miles, 2.4 l non-turbo.

Greg - I can't think of anything that hangs near the axles except the brake lines and the ABS sensor wires. They are held in different clamps. Here is a picture that shows the rubber brake line going to the RF caliper (scroll to bottom of the page). Not great for your purposes, but you can see there is plenty of clearance to the axle. Pic doesn't show ABS wire. Sounds like someone got something attached wrong.

Greg, the turbo is water and oil cooled.
You probably won't see any gains from cleaning a throttle body that was not dirty to begin with.
In regards to the metal lines, I would have to see a picture to be absolutely sure. If they were close enough to your CV boot to cause you concern you probably did the right thing. Seems there is an oil return line down there, or could be brake fluid lines from the master cylinder. Either way, seems there's a brace that they go under and are mounted up under the car so shouldn't be dangling anyway.
