timing belt update: 165000km

first. mr klaus, not sure where you got your figures, but its been 22 months not 10. second. been a rough week. developed some kinda hole in the rad. sometimes it overheats and boils over(i started loosening the cap), sometimes it doesnt. had a stream of juice shooting out of the rad, drove 70 km and it wasnt doing it when i stopped. thursday and friday i finished my day, went to the garage, popped the bonnet to show them the problem and nothing. strange. im going for the longshot cure with the bars leak stuff. even the volvo graveyard doesnt have a used rad. 95 850 turbo wagon 696000km.

My 98 has the same radiator as yours, you would think some rear end collisions would bring ample supplies. Then, again, the radiators are so cheaply built that they probably aren't worth recycling.
With the cap loose or a pin hole in the radiator, the antifreeze will boil sooner. Be careful. Bars Leak stuff doesn't have a 100,000Km guarantee, you will have to budget for a new radiator one of these days.
I would really like to see your wagon go 1mm Km, especially since it is hauling a trailer! A new radiator isn't the end of the world, and could be considered a wear item at 700K. Besides, getting an antifreeze flush would help the engine.

klaus, there are plenty of head-on collisions up here (must be all the moose roaming around). thats one of the reasons they are in short supply. they def. get recycled when available. its in the budget, im not destitute. had a rad flush in december. put in a rad around the 350000km mark. rad, timing belt, tensioners, strut mounts, door lock mechanism, etcetera. paint is looking shabby, no ac, needs rubber soon, cat is shot, plugs 170000, and who knows what else when they start poking around. cant close the sunroof. so you can see it might be a good time to move on. looking at a 2002 xc. just kidding about the sunroof. ha.

I know how you feel. It's all of the little problems you cope with and put off fixing, then a larger one hits and you get a little overwhelmed. It may just be time to look at a better, newer one. At least the AC will work!
There comes a time when all of the parts need to be replaced, some sooner than others, and when that time comes...
Make sure the wheel bearings on your trailer are greased almost as much as the ball hitch :)
