strut noise after new replacement V70-XC70

Hello All:

I just replaced my front struts with bilstein tc's. All went well although it took me four house for the first one and just two for the second. All seemed well at first, but one day later I have a pronounced clunking in both struts. I am able to easily duplicate the street noise by simply bouncing the front end up and down in the driveway. I also replaced the strut mounts because the metal was seperating from the rubber using Febi Bilstein #15431. The only difference between the Volvo and the Febi was that the ribs that fit into the strut mounts weren't as pronounced. The strut mounts looked new so I reused them. I am sure I got both nuts tight as I double checked everything.

Any ideas as to what is clunking in there? Any help would be appreciated. I really hate the idea of taking them off again.

Gene

I'm considering replacing my struts with the Belstein TC's, as the spring seats are clunking and my car now has 120K mi. on the odo.

How's the ride? I'm not interested in any firmer/harder. Seems the stock OEM's struts are becoming harsher with age.

Where did you find instructions on replacing the struts? I've never done suspension work before, though lots of other.

thanks in advance

I have the TC's and love them...nice, qiet and somewhat softer ride than OEM! However, be aware that the front will ride a slight bit higher after the exchange. I was told that the front end would settle in and ride like OEM after awhile but they didn't. In regards to directions on how to do this, others will want to chime in. I paid to have mine done and too lazy right now to look it up.

I had the EXACT same problem after replacing my front struts with Bilstein TCs. There was complete silence at the front end for awhile, then I started getting this low frequency clunking. On both sides of the front end, check your swaybar link nuts on both ends of the link. Mine were loose. Try an open end wrench (16mm, I think) on the backside of the link to keep it from rotating, and then tighten up the lock nuts.

My front end is quiet again, and I'm loving it...
