Help. Cannot get rear rotor off V70-XC70 1998

I am trying to inspect my non-functioning parking brakes... suspect lots of rust, etc.
My rear calipers look like V40s, took everything off. After taking out the holding pin/guide pin, I managed to break loose the rotor, but It won't come off. I suspect the brake shoes are pressing against the lip. Is there a way to get the rotor off? The hand brake feels loose for the first 4 inches, like the cable won't move back to the off position.
These brakes do not have a visible star wheel for adjustment, like the 850s.

You had described a grating noise in a previous post. Could it be the brake cable has internal rust causing an incomplete release of the brake.

Can you pry the shoes toward the axel through the inspection holes? I thought that those cars all had star wheels, but I remember some of the 240's did not. Also try to flex the brake cable as it may brake the internal cable from the outer shell.

Good luck,

dick

So, is there a way to oil the brake cable? V70-XC70 1998

Can I disconnect it, driver's side, and dribble some 3in1 oil in to the brake cable cover? Rust from not being used is the strongest possibility.
If I could peel/push back the cover on the cable somewhere, there might be a way to add oil.
PS Garage temp is a balmy 45F above. At the end of march, when it gets hotter outside, the garage floor gets wet from condensation because the concrete takes a while to get warm.

Now you are beyond my experience on these models. Some way to DC the cable and slip some oil or penetrating fluid may help, but a replacement may be best long term item. I keep forgetting about those brake problems and a wet garage floor? Ah yes, I do remember now. Strange how in TX mechanicals last nearly forever, but paint and interior items get fried in a hurry from our "warm" climate.

Help. Cannot get rear rotor off V70-XC70 1998

I got it off! What a pain. There is a star wheel at 3 o'clock, visible through a stud hole. The rear brake assembly for this awd R looks like it came from a V40.
I think you are right about the rusty cable. I will give that a try.

Help. Cannot get rear rotor off V70-XC70 1998

Klaus, my hero!

For my 98 V70, I found in my "surplus bolt/nut pan" a bolt with threads that fit in the holes of the rotor. The bolt, when turned clockwise, seperated the rotor from the hub. I was skeptical at first, but the solution worked, and the bolt is no longer in the surplus pan.

Thanks for your many solutions.

nice trick. I finally got it off. There is a star wheel at the 3 o'clock position, but hard to see.
