I have a 2000, V 70 SE, 5 cylinder, 5 speed automatic, with 97,000 miles. When should I change the Timing belt. It is a "Collision" engine.

    I have a real slight leak from the front crank seal. You might check and consider a good opportunity to replace the seal when you are doing the timing belt. I've seen leaky front crank seal get oil on the new belts and break them (on a Nissan)

      did you change your breather box (pcv) yet ? maybe this causes the leak......

      (In the UK) I have a 2000 V70 and my recommended timing belt change is 90000 miles. I have a sticker to say it was done then by the previous owners, so I hope that it was. I gues that now would be a good time to change yours, together with the tensioner and preferably the water pump.

    Change it now.
    105K is only an approx recommendation.

    While you are there change the drivebelt as well.

      My 2000 V70 SE is in need of a t. belt change too... have been a little leery of the job since I am told the new tensioner design complicates things, along with the interference design. On the other hand have done 240 timing belt changes successfully.

      Is the timing belt change on a 2000 V70 a reasonable DIY job? What to be extra careful about?

    Starting in '99, these engines went to a 105,000 mile service interval on the timing belt. "Soon" would be a good answer.
