how disable rear wiper in reverse? (2004/V70) V70-XC70 2004

Gang -

The rear wiper on my V70 is designed to operate anytime that the front wipers are on AND the car is in reverse. The owners manual says that your friendly Volvo dealer can disable this feature.

Does anyone know how to do this thereby saving a trip to the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

BobC (Dover, MA)

    what I learned at dealer ... V70-XC70 2004

Does anyone else find visiting the dealer to be a stressfull situation? No?

OK, I asked the dealer to disable the "activate rear wiper when in reverse" option. They said they looked all over and could find no way to do it. They gave up and called Volvo for an answer but it may take "a few days."

I think they doubted this option existed but I did show them the reference to the deactivation in the owners manual.

    Stay tuned.

    Bob

      what I learned at dealer ... V70-XC70 2004

the moment one gets banks off their back (ie mortgage), does not cross lines with lawyers, insurances companies, politicians and car dealers......the life seems soooooooo beautiful and stressless.............

      by the way, did they do anything on your car, any warranty itmes.....did they write you an invoice ? if they did that's the reason why they want you to come back.......then they write another invoice under warranty for some other minor bs item.......$$$$$$ for them from volvo cars NA;

they use us (warranty cars) as pawns......I was once 4 times for the same item......installed so bad they they broke it, so, it was loose, they had to order new one, the new one was also installed 'loose', when I phone them and asked for explanation, they actually wanted me to come back, so they can work some more on that item.......I just did adjustments myself
      its pathetic
but isn't like this these days wherever you turn, lots of bs, just packaging, branding, false advertizing, temporary fixes, no true solutions.......

    I'll post what I learn at dealer V70-XC70 2004

I have an appointment for the 15K service coming up & will find out just what they do to disable this 'feature' while I'm there & will post what I learn.

    It really does that? (2004/V70) V70-XC70 2004

I honestly never noticed that it did that. It would be annoying if it did, especially if you have a rear spoiler that keeps rain off the rear window.

Maybe they could also activate the rear window washer/squirter at the same time, eh? Now that would be reaching beyond our controls of our cars, wouldn't it?

how disable rear wiper in reverse? (2004/V70) V70-XC70 2004

in the cargo compartment there are 2 relays relating to the wiper
position RMI13 is for the wiper, position RMI16 is for intermitten wiping on/off
being me, I would pull the second one out to see the effects.....but that just me

One of my bigger gripes about the new Volvos. The computer controls everything! And only the dealer can change the "options".
When the rear window is covered in dust, you want to wait until it is wet before turning on the rear wiper so that you don't scratch the rear window. With the cover above the rear window, it may not get wet even though the windshield needs wipers.
Just like rain sensing wipers. I know when it is raining, and there are times in the Midwest when there are so many dead bugs on the windshield you don't want the wipers to come on until the little buggers are soaked and come off easily. What happens when you put RainX on the windshield and you are traveling on the Interstate, the rain rolls off and visibility is better than when the wipers are on? Stupid options! Poor design.

    why?
when it rains in front, it does not @ rear in your place ?????
    ;-)

take out fuse.........neeeeeehh.....that's stupid idea, you would have to put it back, quickly, when wiper would be required

probably dealer re-set trough Vadis....of functions in CEM or REM

rear wiper engages only when front are on & you are in the reverse
        volvo safety feature

        re computerized everything, and stiller required to adjust simple things......yes, it sucks;

why one can set for example heat temp for seats ? or lamp delays etc etc.....these functions don't need trained technicians; we dont run to LG or RCA to increae volume on our tv sets, right ?

ford/volvo business approach (sucking users for everything) hopefully backfires and we'll get cars where computer controls optimum mix for injection, but leaves wiper arm, heated seats etc etc etc to our liking

        .....wow, I wrote that???
