S70 parking brake problem S70

' Just replaced the rear rotors and pads on my 2000 S70. After replacing those parts, the parking brake seems to be out of adjustment. Sometimes it doesn't take many clicks before it engages, and sometimes it takes lots of clicks before it will hold. Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks,
Dave

Did you back off the cable adjustment inside the car and then adjust the star wheel inside the emergency brake hub? Believe this is the sequence to follow. We had similar problems and it seemed to do it---

Good luck,

dick

Hi Dick,

Where is the adjustment inside of the car? How much do I back it off and do I adjust the starts until the shoes start to rub?

Thanks,
Dave

The inside adustment is inside the junk box under your arm rest. There is a small access panel you can open. Believe also is available when removing ash tray from the back seat area. Just back it all the way off. Next adjust your brake shoes tightly and and then back off a few clicks till it no longer rubs. It usually drags slightly with new shoes. Now you can adjust the cable . They take awhile to break in---in my experience.

The inside adjustment is under a square dark grey cover on teh bottom of teh cubby under the arm rest. There are two small indents where you can pry it up with a small screw driver blade. I believe that teh adjuster is a 40 Torx bit, and you need the brake handle fully released (down to horizontal) to get access to the adjuster.

Big question: Does anyone have a good trick to adjust the star wheels? I try to do it with a flat blade screw driver, but find it very frustrating. There used to be a special brake shoe adjustment tool back in the old days of drum brakes, but I don't know if they are still used, or if one would fit through the stud hole in the rear disk.

The screwdriver is all I have used on Volvo's. Along with a few choice words which helps. I still have one of those adjuster tools but it would never fit in the smaller holes.
