850 Rear Brake lines 850

Ok, was replacing the rear calipers on my fiance's 95 854 and despite my use of a flare nut wrench, I rounded off one of the brake line nuts. It's still in the caliper, so I was thinking I would need to replace the hard brake line from the caliper up until the next connection.

This car does have ABS so, from what I've been told, I need an exact length match to replace this line. Do the IPD line kits replace this har line from the caliper, or the soft line before the hard line?

Guess I'm just asking if I need to run up to the volvo dealership to order this part or not.

IPD isn't going to be able to help you as they sell the soft lines. You need the hard line. So either go to the dealer, get one made up (that one is actually pretty easy) or just have a hard piece spliced in. The thing is if you are in a corrosive environment at all, the made-up lines are usually steel whereas the Volvo line are some bronze/steel alloy or some such that has pretty high corrosion resistance.

Cheers,

I had the same problem with the front line. I ended up taking the car to a shop, and they simply cut the line some 3-4" from the nut and extended it with a new piece (with a correct flare nut). They used a usual union coupler with o-rings. The final result looks and works very well. I would do this myself next time.
The shops have brake repair kits and hardware, and most of them are familiar with the job.

Replacing the whole line would be a major pain.

Are the o-rings actually compression rings? I believe this is not advised in brake line repair. Isn't the correct procedure to flare the old shortened line with a tool? I haven't done much brake line repair, but I remember hearing the warning about compression fittings.

Call IPD and see...they are very helpful.
