780 - rust around rear windows 700

I'm wondering if this is a common problem for 780's. Whey I bought this, I could see there was some rust around the rear window on the driver's side. I have a good body man that I knew could take care of it so I bought the car. I am pulling the interior panels to take off the wood and refinish it and to save a little money at the body shop. The piece that seems to support the glass is almost eaten away but there is no sign of water damage below that. When I pulled the other side interior panel, I found the same only not so far along. it looks to me like a long slow leak. Does anyone know where it might come from? Have any of you had this problem?

Blessings!
Patrick

    780 - rust around rear windows 700 1988

You've inspired me to pull some of my interior panels and investigate this possibility. Fortunately, my '88 PRV-6 780 will be living in my garage this winter and I should be able to perform any repairs without too much trouble.

Thanks for the heads up. God bless,
    Fitz Fitzgerald

      Hmmmmmm
I hate to think that my experience has been an inspiration Fitz :) However, I might learn something that could help you. I will keep you posted. My theory at this point is that snow was left on this car during the winter and the water seeped in around the gaskets as the snow melted. This was a Pennsylvania/NJ car. I think it was cared for well the first 120K but since then, it has not had much love. I'm putting my heart along with a lot of money into it. I gave up a perfectly good 940 turbo to my step-daughter.
Hope you had a fine and thankful Thanksgiving.
      Blessings!
      Patrick
