Irrratic Idle When Applying Brakes 900

When I'm sitting at a stop light with my foot on the brake, my idle pulses rythmicly between 400 & 1200 RPM. If I reduce pressure on the brake pedal, the pulsing is reduced to about 600 - 1000. If I put the car in neutral, and remove my foot from the brake, the idle is fine.
I'm assuming this is vacuum related... any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Irrratic Idle When Applying Brakes 900

I'm glad you got an answer on this. I read your post last night, then had the same problem this morning! I'm not the superstitious type, but it was kinda creepy.

Is this happening all the time, or is it intermittent? I had it happen just once in 1 hour of city driving.

thanks, Brian

I would call it intermittent, but it happens more than half the time.

Replace the small plastic vacuum check valve on the vacuum line leading to the brake booster.

This is the vacuum check valve, right?

Is the brake booster the cylinder that the master cylinder attaches to?
