240 High Idling

I have a 1989 Volvo 240 GLT, manual transmission, with about 160000 miles; I have noticed a problem with the idling. Begins well when i start the car, but shoots up to 1500 rpm after a little driving. It's really uncomfortable when I have to shift gears, or when I need to put it in neutral in traffic! I have tried cleaning the IAC valve, and I even replaced the flywheel sensor because it was very worn out, but the problem persists...any helpful ideas?

This isn't really the "repair" forum. You'll get tons of advice if you post this on another location within Brickboard
