it's kind of a pain getting the reverse switch out, so if you are feeling lazy you can put a switch on the stick or dash that does the same thing (grounds the control circuit of the relay). I know I had it like that for awhile once before I did an engine switch. sounds like you are just starting to learn how to trouble shoot wiring, use the diagrams in the haynes to help you along and before you know it you will be modifying with horn and headlight relays.
