Did you file grooves in the nut for the bolts to pass through? I filed
mine through the corners of the nut so they are a bit deeper but are not
in any kind of a bid - good straight pull.
I'd suggest really good thread engagement and be sure there is at least
a couple threads' clearance between the nut and the wheel. Use high strength
bolts and you can tighten both of them pretty tight. Once they are good and
tight, a smart rap on the end of the column with a brass drift and a fairly
heavy hammer might surprise you.
