240 pinstriping

The pinstriping on our "new" $610 1989 240DL has partially worn off. From what I can tell, the two 1/16 strips were painted on, and are not tape. I would like to remove or replace the pinstriping.

Has anybody had any luck removing painted pinstripping?

Barring removal, can somebody suggest a source for good, inexpensive (remember the cost of the car) pinstriping?
