Working on a project car to fix up and sell, wonder what it's worth. The car is a 84 245 turbo, ~225k miles. I got it due to the engine have thrown a rod due to the bearing cap nut falling off (as far as I can tell, it just loosened up and fell off - no good reason) and consequently ventalating the block. So, I am rebuilding the engine w/ new rings and bearings. The pistons and bores (differnt block) where inspected and found to be good, and the head has been rebuilt fairly recently, so I just reused it. Also, the turbo is a water cooled add on, and seems to also be reasonably new. I suspect the car was well taken care of, and had just had a head job and associated work done, and then it developed a rod knock and was hence sold. Basically, the engine will be totally rebuilt, looks like a low milage junkyard trans, good fuel system, etc. Essentially, the drivetrain is all in very good shape. The interior is all complete, and all in good shape, athough the front seats are worn, but will be covered with sheepskin seat covers. (we have found this looks very good on seats with some rips etc and is easier than replacing/rebuilding the seats) I may rebuild the front end, not sure what it needs yet. The body is nice and clean and straight, but it has the clasic peeling clear coat issue.
So, what do ya'll think the car is worth?? Assume everything is in good shape (repaired or inspected) and the car has sno problems once so ever, with the possible exepetion of the clear coat. Also, would it be worth getting it painted?
Thanks - John
