Don't know whether you are still searching for your little gremlin (maybe in keeping with the Season we'll just call it a little "elf")?
If you checked you knock sensor and are still having this problem, then keep in mind that the knock sensor should not be torqued beyond, say, 8-10lbs., otherwise, you have built into the knock sensor a certain "pre-stress" if you overtighten it and it makes it much more over-sensitive.
