You are correct, the refrigerant goes into the compressor. The valve you want is the one on the left, same side as where the hose coming from the cabin attaches at the back of the compressor (do not grade my sentence structure, pleeez).

Do not attempt to connect the line with the engine running. Hard on fingers.

Keep the refrigerant can upright, that way only gas enters the system, not liquid. Liquid entry will blow the compressor valves. BTDT. Keep the filler hose away from the p/s belt. BTDT too.

Watch the sight glass, and, if you are not using a gauge set, be wary of overfilling. On that York compressor, replacing the shaft seal is a BIG DEAL (BTDT) requiring removal of the compressor. The amount of RS134a needed is not the same as the R12 amount as stated on the label on the LF fender well.
