"coming up on the cam," is largely a function of Lobe Centre Angle. If you take your exact same cam & close the angle between the intake & exhaust lobes from wide 109 to narrow 100 it will loose flexibility under 2500rpm but then suddenly produce power above 2500rpm. From 3000-6000 torque will be increased but then it will taper off faster after 6000rpm. Peak torque & power will be higher but you have a shorter powerband & poorer part throtle fuel economy, my meanest engine was like this :)
