starting problem 700 1986

Hi, Just a note to share experience and to invite comment.
I rechecked for spark after finding no vacuum leaks and this time there was none.
Pulled the distributor and found the cap condition to be awful but probably not the intermittant fault.
Found the three wire hall effect multiplug to be broken and possibly allowing the red wire to short to the distributor body.
Now know the bare large guage copper wire to be the RF shielding on the hall effect wires.
Checked the output from the hall effect by powering the red/black with 12V and rerotationg the distributor by hand. Got a 1/2 Volt peak with a signal wave that had a vertical front and a exponential back tapering away to zero.
Anyone know what the output should look like?
Thanks, Al
