if the motor itself says B230ft then id go with that, maybe someone switched it out who knows, if you took the turbo hoses off thats a good reason for it not to start, check all of them make sure 1 there hooked up right and 2 there are no brakes within the hoses even a pin hole can have an effect like this it sounds like that wire your talking about is eith er a ground which theres one in that area or its your Hall Switch Sensor Wire, if its you Hall Wire replace it asap and then try to start the car again, that sensor will stop the car easy, lots of posts on here regarding that sensor it can cause a lot of problems, that sensor is the one which you were looking for on the bell housing but on the pre 89 models its on the dist houseing. good luck
