My wife's 86 745T with B230FT and LH2.2 Jetronic had been giving trouble for several weeks for running too rich. It made lots of black smoke and fuel economy was way down. I had checked all the induction hoses and even the intercooler for leaks. There were no leaks. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator with a spare used unit. The resistance of the Coolant Temperature Sensor checked out perfect every time I checked it from terminal 2 of the ECU. I also tried a spare ECU. Nothing made any difference until I replaced the AMM with the spare unit carried in the car. Now it runs perfect. I have experienced an AMM failure before, but the car had reduced power and no black smoke. Usually with an AMM failure, the ECU goes into the "Limp Home Mode", and is driveable with reduced power and driveability. So, when all else fails, it may be the AMM.
