Welcome to this site. About your useing this site as I often do, I must say that very few people reply back to the people that try to help them out. It's a curtisy to at least let the person know when you have be helped out be someone, but thats up to you. Anyway back to your car problem: I would say ,considering its age , that you need to replace your fuel pump relay. New they are about $50.00, used but from a much newer model about $10.00. I use the following web site to get some of my Volvo parts. Their at www.volvousedparts.com Brain is the man that I deal with and his prices are very fair. Now when you get your replacement fuel pump relay drill several holes in it about 1/16th of an inch in dia. Before you drill the holes remove the relays cover then drill, clean up any plastic shavings that may have not been completely removed with a pocket knife or deburring tool of somekind. Drill the holes everywhere , top and all sides, then slide the relay back together ( put a permenant mark on the side and bottom of the relay BEFORE you take it apart) Match the marks and then slide it back together intill it snaps over the 2 retainer lips. It was the heat build up and bad souldering job at the factory. So drilling holes aleveates the heat build up. I hope this helps you out. Dan.
