Tony -

What is the newer engine? Another 1986 B230F from a 240? From a non-240?

A 240 B230F engine but a different model year?

Have you checked the usual simples? Got spark? Got fuel? Got timing belt?

The 1986 240 is prone to the crumbling insualtoin problem in the main wiring harness. If you used the original harness, maybe the moving around has caused harness problem.

Just some ideas.
