OD: J-Type vs P-Type?

I've been told that the J-type Laycock overdrive is weaker than the later P-type, but can anyone tell me why? Does anyone have experience with ruining a J by running it with a Turbo?

Basically, I've seen alot of folklore with regards to tranny strength within the web Volvo community. (Mostly people poo-poo-ing M47's...)
