Depends on the year. Remember the gas crunch in the late 70's early 80's? the ever-so-brilliant Feds required that speedos have the 55 mark at the top, so's we lesser humans would perceive that we were just tooling along as before, when 70 was at the top (like my 1979 245DL). How fast the car will actually go is a separate issue from the speedo. A 242Ti ought to peg an 85mph speedo with ease.
