If you engine has a carburetor(s), then stick with a mechanical fuel pump.
Unfortunately for older Volvos with carb(s), the aftermarket fuel pumps are poorly built and it is not unusual for these cheap pumps to put out too much fuel pressure and I have been installing fuel pressure regulators to compensate.
FYI, I won't use 1 of the cheap inline fuel pressure regulators as I have seen them fall apart which sprays fuel all over the engine compartment which is really dangerous. I use a Holly brand low pressure fuel regulator. They cost more and require a bit more work to mount, but they won't fall apart.
