Alright...last week I posted a question about the charging system on a 1968 firebird. Since then I have removed the gauge cluster to access the wiring harness, replaced the ignition switch and split the wiring harness under the hood....nothing is wrong that I can tell. Still there is no charge. Just to be sure I full feilded the alternator and it charges 30 amps. when running not full feilded it has 10 amps drawn. This is a big issue as this old ride has lots of uber power using motors....(the starter is absolutly massive and the power windows consume enough juice to brown out your average rural town). last time this chearging issue happened I jiggled the wires behind the ignition switch and it began to work.....this told me there was a bad connection somewhere....so I began looking....first I checked for voltage at the terminals on the switch's back....all have juice save for the following the port marked "Sel" which goes to the starter selonoid...(it works only when cranking as it should), the port makred "ground"....(I don't think that should have juice)...and the ports marked "Key+" and "Key-". According to my wireing diagram "key-" heads toward the back of the car and I am not sure what it does, but I am sure that it has little to do with the charging system. as for "key+" I have no idea what it goes to...it heads forward to the firewall connector port and from there ....its a mystery....I think this is the issue though as it never has juice at it cranking, running or in the accessory position. Can anyone tell me what the hell "key+" does??? This is driving me to drinkin as I cannot find what is wrong with this car...the regulator is good (brand new), the alternator is good, the battery is good (brand new) and the wiring is good (all new soldered and connectiveity checked connections) and the Ammeter works....please help....after 15 hours of checking stuff I have exhausted my list of what to look for and I am really stuck on this one
PS: the brick has no charging issues...at all
