Hi,
in the past week i've been discussing things with the insurance company regarding my totalled 83 wagon.
so far it's frustrating. i sent them receipts for work that's been done. the work is over a year old, so they are saying 'no'. none of the work is over 15,000 miles old, i.e. new brakes, new fuel pump. that part is really frustrating because they are wanting to pay me about 1100 dollars which probably won't get me a brick that's had as much work done as mine.
they sent me some big fax about 'comparable cars' in the area. but only one of them was a wagon, and i need a wagon, i have no use for a sedan. on the plus side they are paying for a rental.....
so it's not resolved yet, but i wanted to post an update in case anyone was wondering. i believe they should also compensate me for my time, (having to shop for a new car)- i had intended on keeping my car til it keeled over, which we all know can take a long time. i'm thinking too that i want them to pay at least to have one car inspected by my mechanic before purchase, to try to make sure that something expensive is not horribly wrong. i'm not sure if i get to make them compensate me for all the hand-wringing and aggravation. and for the time i will have to spend to research and go look at cars. i know that once i settle, i won't have a rental car to go look at cars with, so that will be a whole other aggravation.
the frustrating part is where they looked at my receipts and said 'yeah, this doesn't matter because these receipts are over a year old" even though i only drive about 5000 miles a year. aargh.
oh well. maybe the next car will be AWESOME. and i'll be pleased. i miss the old one already though. it's the only car i've had for over a year, and the only one i learned to work on. i remember when i first got it, posting here and getting good instructions from don foster about how to solder the over-drive relay. and i tried it, and it worked! that car introduced me to the brickboard, and all the helpful people who encouraged me to work on my car and figure it out, rather than just running to my mechanic for every little problem.
and i was referred to my awesome mechanic by another brickboard person, which was really helpful. i've since referred about a dozen volvo people to the same mechanic. (mitch at alamo automotive in portland, oregon).
oh well. end of an era, hopefully the new era will be good. i'll stop rambling now...
thanks to everyone who has every given me advice on fixing my car, and resources on good places to get parts for cheap, it's been invaluable and fun learning (that i hope will continue with the new brick, whenever that happens).
:)
susan.
