I have had problems with my instrument cluster ever since I screwed it up (that stupid little red wire ----@$!%!!). I have found a little local one-horse "junk" yard that has a '92 and a 93' 240 sedan and I was wondering if the cluster from either of those would fit my '89? Right now all I need is the speedometer but he has made me such a good price on the entire cluster I can't turn it down (I can't even buy a speedometer for what he is asking).
I've also had an on-going problem with surging after I have idled for a while so I decided to replace the pre-pump just because I lacked a better idea and I had already replaced everything else. I pulled the sending unit and it was COVERED!! with rust. The tank itself is eaten up with rust so I think that can be a huge part of the problem. Will the '92 tank fit on my '89? Can I use the pre-pump and sending unit also?
I'm under the impression that both will work but I don't want to go pull them if they won't. The guy that owns the yard says I can have both parts for $40 if I pull them --- that's hard to turn down.
If there are any parts you guys would like for me to check on while I'm there I'd be happy to.
He also has a 740 with a manual transmission that he says the transmission is bad and he will sell it to me CHEAP. I only glanced at it so I don't know anything about it. Are manual transmissions hard to find? Should I look at it?
Sorry about all the questions but I value your opinions.
Thanks,
Tony T
