Stripped threads on a throttle shaft 140-160

Soemone, I guess the previous owner, appently over-tightened the nut on the throttle shaft on the front SU carb on my son's '72 142 and stripped the threads. This provides an air leak and keeps the throttle from returning to idle position. I had to goof around with this for quite a while before I determined the cause of the problem. Question 1: would it make sense to re-thread the end of the shaft for a different diameter nut? I can't see another way to tighten the thing and it won't work well as is. Question 2: is there a better solution? Question 3: if that won't work am I faced with a carb rebuild? Question 4: if it needs a rebuild, who can give me the name of the guy I've seen others comment on who does a good job at a low price?

Thanks for the help,

Jim Hampton
