Remove camshaft & distributor just to do a head gasket? Really? 200

Well I'm back from WWU and starting to work on my $200 '79 gt with a blown head gasket. I was reading the head removal instructions in the haynes manual and it all seemed pretty straitforward until the part where it said to remove the cam and distrubutor...I just can't think of why this would be necessary. I've looked it over a bunch, but I'm still way confounded about this. Here's some other questions...What else should I be doing while I'm in there, with the manifolds ripped off? I'm checking all fuel and vacuum lines, cleaning tb and intake, new intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, and resealing the fuel injectors. What am I forgeting? And is there a way to clean out those fuel injectors? This thing has 263,xxx miles on it, it had the head off and rebuilt ten years and 100,ooo miles ago, fyi. Thanks everyone!
