code 2-3-1 900 1995

940 non-turbo

Car is acting strange. First there was this hesitation, then difficulty in climbing slope, next backfiring in bonnet, and now lambda code 2-3-1 and 2-1-2.

Hesistation started mild but now quite frequent, and takes about 3-5 second before car surge. Slope will also prolong hesitation time. If I press all the way to the floor while hesitating I get a popping sound in front.

Swapped two used MAF meter but with no apparent success. The first one made driving even worse. Second one was better but problems remained. Code 2-3-1 means weak fuel supply. 2-1-2 is for O2, which should not be because I just changed a brand new volvo part some two months back.

What could be wrong? What gives rise to 2-3-1 anyway. Book does not explain reason or cause for 2-3-1. Where do I start looking? Advice badly needed. Please help!

Thanks.
