960 torque converter leak 900

I have a 1992 960 with 130k miles and just got it back from the mechanic for an oil change. He says I have a leaky tranmission and is under the impression it is a failed or failing torque converter seal. He thinks he needs the car for 2 days and $500 to replace the seal. Is his diagnosis correct and estimate reasonable or should I be attempting something else?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
