I have a 1988 740GLE sedan with AT and 179 miles on it. She's a peach of a car, but began engaging OD at higher and higher speeds recently. Initially it would not engage until I reached about 40-45mph and every week it seems to take a higher speed to engage. I am now having to reach 60mph before it reluctantly engages. I have changed the filter/screen and fluid, checked the OD relay(which is good) and fuse(good also). I assume from what I read that the solenoid is the next logical step? (hopefully) If so is this something that can be changed by a 'backyard mechanic' like me? Thanks.
