M46 rear support alignment 200

Does anybody know whether an M46 gearbox is supposed to sit in the middle of the transmission tunnel, or like mine, be offset 1/2" towards the right?
When I relaced the original M47 some years ago with an M46, I used the old support crossmember (just bolting it into the alternative set of holes).
The side od the box occasionally rubs on the transmission tunnel, when starting with a lot of torque, or on rough ground.
It is a new rubber mount, and I cannot see any other position for it to mount in.
I read recently the the M46 uses thicker spacers on the cross member, so I tried adding some washers. It is much better, but still I am puzzled that the box is not exactly in the middle of the tunnel.
Anyone have any observations on this? Is there a special M46 cross member?
