Rebuilding Distributor 200 1987

I am trying to rebuild the distributor on an '87 245.
The insulator for the Hall sensor connection broke. The parts is $3.00, I have it. But in order to install it I need to unconnect the gear at the bottom of the distributor shaft.
I tried to knock out the tapered(?) pin but I could not. I have taken it to the local Vo-Tech where the instructor took a personal interest in its removal. I'll have it back by the end of the week. Where do I get a new pin?
