I was thinking this morning on the way to work. I recently read about the new Honda hybrid Accord uses a system to shut down 3 of the 6 cylinders when loads are light. How could I do this with my Classic Volvos. Then it hits me. We have electric fuel injection control for each cylinder. Why not insert a switch in the power to the one or two cylinder's fuel injector. This would stop fuel to that cylinder and the others would continue to work. Fuel consumption would drop. The switch could be turned on when power is needed again. (new thought while writing use - use vacuum signal to turn the power on/off as needed!) The heavy flywheel of these engines would smooth out the power flow.
Any thoughts? Would this work? What would go wrong?
