TPS wiring 700 1989

I just cleaned the TB on my 16-valve. While I had it off I realized that it would be real easy to pull the PCV off and spray it out two. I put it all back together, all the vac lines are on, and it runs like crap. Starting: revs don't go higher than 1000, usually gets up to ~1800 then settles in fast idle ~1100. Now it ticks over around 500, bucks, shakes. Pressing the accelerater makes it try to die. If I floor it, revs drop of almost completely, then with a loud bang, blasts up to almost 4000. Once i'm moving it seems to work but I can't drive it if it can't roll from a stop.

I was thinking (I do a lot more thinking than wrenching. It's more fun and nothing bad can happen) that if I put the harness conector onto the TPS backwards, the ECU would think I'm at full throttle and run rich with no idle circut. If I touch the gas at all, it would think I'm decelerating from WOT and lean out, still with no idle circut.

Is it possible that I put the wiring on backwards? Should I try to flip it and see what happens? Don't know what to do.
