i have been figting a lossing battle with my 85 740t. I did manage to find some leaks under boost, and repaired them. As i was driving home from the store tonight i think i figured it out. as the rpm's hit 2800 to 3500, the car breaks up real bad, blowing black smoke behind me (fuel). I remember i had a mustang that did almost the same thing, just couldn't tell if it was running rich. It turned out to be the plug wires on the ford. I have bougee (sp?) cord wires on the 740 and are in real good condition. But the cap and rotor is a different story, i found it real loose and not sure how long it was like that. Like the big dummy i am, i just tighened it up, with out checking it? Do you think i found another one of my problems?
