D24T Diesel, Valve stem to guide clearance 700

Hi all

I'm into the head now on my diesel rebuild. I'd like to get some advice on Valve Stem to Guide clearance.

The Volvo Green book procedure is to hold the valve open. The stem flush with the end of the guide and measure the side to side clearance with a Dial Indicator. Anything over .0511" is excessive. This seems like alot. I've worked on gassers with much less play than this. I've heard of errors with the Green Book. I'm wondering if this is one?

In any case, I have .042" Exhaust and .023" Intake (Highest reading, but pretty consistant.)

What would you guys do? Leave it alone or replace the guides. I haven't the facilities to press out guides so I'd have to send it out.

I'm leaning towards leaving it alone due to the fact that every valve has a positive Valve Stem seal that is getting replaced.

Thanks again
