intermittent idle problem in New Zealand 900 1996

Hi Brickboarders,

Hopefully someone can help me out and point me in the right direction. I have a 1996 Volvo 940 Estate Automatic with a B230 FK (Low Pressure Turbo)and only 123000 km's. Has been running really smooth and well (very well maintained!), but lately the engine idling gives me trouble. Particularly when waiting at a traffic light while in Drive (automatic) and foot on the brake, the engine almost "shivers" for a very short time (1 second)while the rpm also drops for the same amount of time. After that, idle surges a little up and down. This is an intermittent problem. Sometime it runs really smooth but the next day, or the next traffic light or intersection, the problem arises again. It is a little like a tooth ache. When you go and see a dentist, it doesn't hurt anymore, so my garage thinks I'm talking rubbish. Don't know what I'm dealing with here. Could this be a sticking Idling Air Contol Valve? I would really appreciate some comments and/or ideas!!
