Hello Everyone ... Its been some time since I've needed help so thanks in advance ...
I bought my 82 Turbo new and still drive it daily until recently ... Here's my story and its the TRUTH .. After accumulating over 250,000 miles on original motor and drive train (except rear axle assembly) and having more power than even I can believe my original clutch started slipping at 3,000rpm and 10#s boost so I desidesd to do some MORE IMPROVEMENTS .( Last year I added a B23 intake manifold and hoses and ported it thoroughly including the turbo. Damn what an increase in power and smoothness). Every few years I've done different little tricks to improve performance -- Last 5 years I've been running at least 15#s boost on a daily basis and as part of my clutch upgrade I weighed my original flat flywheel(14#s) and then picked up a late stepped model(32#s DAMN) and took it home and placed it into my lathe and carefully/slowly/safely removed all except for 13#s so I'd have the same performance as before and also alot more clutch surface area. Then I proceded to completely go thru my motor to look for any damage after running so much boost for so many years, but didn't notice any!!! I completely hand fit and balanced all components including completely porting and matching the intake/head/late exhaust including turbo. PS: I've built HiPo Harleys for a living 20+ years and have all the equiptment in my home garage.
Now after doing all this work and installing it back in place I've overlooked something??? It starts up and dies -- extremely rich at idle w/ a miss. Good spark, timing is correct, good vacuum 17-20, 13.6 volts, new wiring harness.... I'm uncertain about how the fuel supply & return lines connect to the fuel head -- return line connects to the large frequency valve(Lamba Sond dual) or single attachment point???? Motor has 125 psi on all 4 - timing is close -- its going to be FANTASTIC but every time since 82 after any major upgrades it just takes a while to get everything connected properly!!! Depending on which way I hook up the 2 fuel lines -- I should have marked 1 one of them to not be having this part of the problem. I own 4 manuals and none show what I'm asking for!!!
I've added a late power steering pump under the turbo so I could install a large alternator above the air conditioner compressor so that at night in the summer with air conditioner on and sounds CRANKING with 4 Cibie halogen lamps lighting and wipers wiping I'd still have adequate electricity at idle!!! So far its working GREAT and I also rebushed all bushings, replaced all rotors, including ball joints. It sure has been alot of work but I've enjoyed driving this Volvo more that any other car and I hope to drive it another 250K!! Thanks for any good help -- Gary.
